WHO: U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, Gov. Donald L. Carcieri, business and community leaders, URI administrators and researchers, including Thomas Mather, professor of entomology and director of URI’s Center for Vector-Borne Disease. Barbara Morse Silvia, NBC-10 health reporter, will serve as emcee.
WHAT: The Big Tick Gala, now in its second year, celebrates Rhode Islanders making a difference in preventing tick bites and serves to launch the University of Rhode Island’s upcoming tick awareness programs. A highlight of the fundraising event will be the presentation of the “Think TICK, Take Action” awards, which recognize government, philanthropic, and grass-roots anti-tick efforts.
WHEN: Friday, May 30, 2008, 5:30 to 8 p.m.
WHERE: The Botanical Gardens, Roger Williams Park Zoo, Providence. The gardens are on the left past the carousel and boathouse. Free parking is available in the lot directly below the gardens.
WHY: A chance to learn about new tick-bite prevention efforts.
