URI’s Journalism Day set for Thursday, Nov. 13
KINGSTON, R.I. –November 5, 2008 –The University of Rhode Island will hold its annual Journalism Day this year during the morning and evening of Nov. 13. Both programs, co-sponsored by the Department of Journalism and the Rhode Island Press Association, are free and open to the public.
The morning program "Maintaining Journalistic Standards in a 24-hour News Cycle" will begin at 11 a.m. in Atrium One, Memorial Union, 50 Lower College Rd, Kingston.
Panelists will be Joel "Ed" Medina, director of multimedia development, Boston Globe/Boston.com; John Martin, editor of Governing.com; Fred Harwood, managing editor for online content/new media at the New Bedford Standard Times. Sheila Mullowney, executive editor, The Newport Daily News, will moderate.
The evening program is a panel discussion that begins at 7 p.m. in Swan Hall Auditorium, 60 Upper College Rd., Kingston. The topic is "Lipstick on a Pig: A Look Back at the Election.”
Panelists will be Jill Lawrence, a national political writer at USA TODAY and a former columnist for The Associated Press; Marc A. Genest, a professor of Strategy and Policy at the Naval War College and a former URI political science professor; and Ian Donnis, reporter and columnist for The Providence Phoenix.
