Clarice Owiti Odhiambo ‘88 knows that looking for simple solutions to common problems requires improvisation, creativity, and innovation. And she knows first hand that URI faculty and students are great sources for such big thinking.

Odhiambo is the CEO and founder of the Africa Center for Engineering Social Solutions (ACESS), an organization in her native Kenya that exists to uplift the livelihood of the people in Africa. A former corporate chemical engineer, this dedicated alumnus has traveled the world to put simple solutions to work for and with the people of Africa. “I have learned there is more to life than making money,” says Odhiambo.

Each year Odhiambo has brought college students to Africa to help transform the lives of residents. Together they’ve created and used simple technical solutions, such as irrigation and sanitation systems to reshape the people’s health and lives.
