Well-traveled and multilingual, Dan Belbey ‘13 thrives on immersing himself in new cultures. He loves beginning with “zero knowledge and building a foundation of understanding of and appreciation for something entirely foreign.” So when Dan transferred to URI, the International Business Program (IBP) was a perfect fit.

He majored in global business and German, spent a semester at Hamburg University, and fell in love with the city, which is the business and logistics heart of Europe. After Hamburg, he spent a semester in Munich, interning at BMW. Soon, communicating in German was as natural to him as conversing in English (or Spanish and Italian). But the story doesn’t end there.

Now Dan is not only a recent URI grad, he is also the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship, which will take him back to Hamburg and fund two of the three semesters he needs for a Masters of Arts in Business Administration and Logistics at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany. The new Fulbright Scholar is looking forward to his master’s courses—which will be taught in German—and is especially interested in customs, international trade, and supply chain management. And he’s already reached out to his bosses at BMW in Munich about a graduate trainee program there after he has earned his advanced degree.

We’re sure the story won’t end there, either.
