1. Make yourself at home
If you are moving into one of the residence halls on campus, you’ll be greeted by students and staff ready to help. Check out move-in information for detailed schedules and tips on what to bring. And don’t forget to register for O-Week events starting Friday, Aug. 30.
2. Find your people
URI is home to 17,000+ undergraduate and graduate students, who come to URI from more than 65 nations and 47 U.S. states. This year, the University welcomes approximately 3,600 first-year and transfer students, who will find a vibrant community with students of diverse backgrounds and interests.
During O-Week, you’ll find activities and events to keep you busy before classes begin on Sept. 4. And be sure to explore the URInvolved website to learn more about the unique opportunities URI has to offer—and all the ways to stay connected on campus, including Project Connect, a special program for first-year and transfer students that meets once a week for six weeks, beginning in September. URI also offers more than 150 clubs and organizations that invite you to explore your interests, discover new ones, and meet new friends.
3. Play
Campus Recreation offers you a world of fitness and wellness activities, intramural sports, and club sports at some of the region’s top athletic facilities, including the Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center, Keaney Gymnasium, Mackal Field House, Robert P. Arrigan Sailing Pavilion, and Bradford R. Boss Ice Arena.
So run, lift, sail, skate, swim, and spin. Take classes in yoga and Pilates. And don’t forget, there’s always the beach.
4. Eat, really well
What’s on the menu? Just about anything you want. URI is famous for its award-winning food, and you’ll have plenty of choices at Mainfare, Butterfield, and the Ram’s Den. But that’s not all—check out all the dining options on campus and be sure to take a look at their hours of operation during Move-in Weekend.
5. Get around
The Rhody Shuttle is a free transportation service with more than 20 stops around campus. All shuttles are ADA accessible and available to visitors, students, faculty, and staff. The shuttles operate Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m., with service every 8-to-20 minutes. Rhody Safe Rides/Safe Walks is a service provided to all members of the URI community as a safe and free alternative to walking alone after dark.
