Short Course in Cooking Seafood Offered by URI Friends of Oceanography

Narragansett, R.I .– October 4, 2000 — Everyone who lives in the Ocean State should know how to cook and enjoy fish. Friends of Oceanography at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography certainly think so and, as a result, are offering a course entitled There’s More to Fish Than Fish and Chips. The course will take place on Wednesday, October 18, from 6-8 p.m. at the Mosby Center on the URI Bay Campus in Narragansett. Narragansett resident Pam Rand, a registered dietician and food and nutrition therapist, will demonstrate how to prepare two quick and nutritious seafood choices. Participants will enjoy samples of seafood appetizers and main courses while Rand explains the nutritional value and importance of fish as a protein source. Course fee is $25 for Friends of Oceanography members and $35 for nonmembers. Preregistration is required. For information or registration, call 874-6602. Established in 1985 to support and promote the activities of the URI Graduate School of Oceanography, Friends of Oceanography informs and educates the membership and the general public about the scientific, technological, and environmental research that takes place at GSO. The organization sponsors public lectures, open houses, marine-related mini-courses, science cruises on Narragansett Bay, and an annual auction.
