KINGSTON, R.I. — January 9, 2001 — The University of Rhode Island will commemorate the birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a series of events Jan. 22 through 26. All events are in the Hardge Forum of the Multicultural Center on URI’s Kingston Campus and are free and open to the public. The schedule of events is as follows: Monday, Jan. 22 Noon – Film: “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” 7 p.m. – Film: “A Force More Powerful” Tuesday, Jan. 23 Noon – Unity Lunch, sponsored by the URI Chaplains. Features a presentation by Dr. Bernard Lafayette, director of the URI Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies, and awards ceremony for URI’s Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest.
