KINGSTON, R.I. — February 28, 2001 — Renowned scholar and author Dr. Lawrence D. Bobo, professor of sociology and Afro-American studies at Harvard University will draw upon his newly published book Prismatic Metropolis: Inequality in Los Angeles, in a lecture at the University of Rhode Island on Thursday, March 22. Free and open to the public, the lecture entitled “The Face of Modern Urban Inequality” will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Edwards Auditorium where Bobo will show how race, class, and gender continue to structure life chances in the global cities of today. He will be available to sign books following the event. Bobo is co-author of the award-winning book Racial Attitudes in America. His research interests include racial attitudes and relations, social psychology, public opinion, and political behavior. He has appeared on the Today Show, the CBS Sunday Morning Program, Nightline, CNN, the NBC News Special Broadcast “The Racial Attitudes and Consciousness Exam,” and in numerous other print (e.g. The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, U.S.A. Today, and Newsweek), radio, and televised interview outlets. He is currently writing a book on the sociology of prejudice and is the co-principal investigator of the Los Angeles Survey of Urban Inequality project. Bobo will be on the URI campus both Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23 visiting classes to meet informally with students and faculty to share ideas.
