URI to hold ‘Speak Out Against Sexual Violence Week’

KINGSTON, R.I. — April 5, 2001 — The week of April 9-13 will be Speak Out Against Sexual Violence Week at the University of Rhode Island. Many campus events will promote and support the end to sexual violence. During the week purple ribbons will be distributed throughout the campus by the URI Violence Prevention Committee which is asking everyone to wear a ribbon and support the fight to Speak Out Against Sexual Violence. Throughout the week there will be booths in the Memorial Union displaying different exhibits. On April 9, The Clothesline Project will be displayed and on April 11, The Silent Witness Exhibit will be displayed. The URI Sorority system will be presenting “These Hands Don’t Hurt on April 10 in the Memorial Union. Two theaterical programs will be held during this week. “Drawing The Shades,” a play on the issues of sexual assault will be performed April 11 at 6 p.m. in Quinn Auditorium. “One Night”, an interactive theatre program on acquaintance rape, will be performed on April 9 at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom.
