URI cadets graduate from the Army’s Airborne School

KINGSTON, RI — August 3, 2001 — Seven students from the University of Rhode Island Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) program recently completed the United States Army Airborne School.
Airborne School is a physically demanding, three-week course taught at Fort Benning, Georgia. Students can attend Airborne School during the summer after their sophomore or junior year.
Students are taught the fundamentals of military parachuting which include exiting the aircraft, controlling their descent, and landing procedures. Students complete a four day and one night parachute descent, and upon graduation are presented the Army basic parachutist badge.
