instrumentation in forensic science
Kingston, R.I. — Sept. 28, 2001 — Lt. Joseph D. Powell, an expert on instrumentation in forensic science, will give the third Forensic Science Seminar on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.
Powell’s lecture, “Trace Evidence Solves Crimes”, will be held in Room 124 of Pastore Hall on the Kingston Campus, and will address the use of instrumentation in solving crimes. He will also discuss new types of instrumentation and how they will aid in future investigations. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Powell, of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, has worked in the field of trace evidence for 20 years. “I have developed analytical methods for the analysis of many types of forensic examination as well as written software for automated gunshot residue analysis and other automated systems,” said Powell.
He has offered court testimony on forensic matters more than 600 times.
The seminar series is a semester-long program offered by the URI Forensic Science Partnership. The seminars take place every Thursday in Pastore Hall from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
