URI Narragansett Bay Classroom to Host Final Free
JASON Project 2002 Teacher Training Session

Training open to K-12 teachers, home schoolers, scout leaders,
youth group leaders, and senior citizen organizers.

Narragansett, RI — September 6, 2001 — The 2002 JASON Project: Frozen Worlds, which will take place from January 28 to February 8, 2002, will take students and teachers on an adventure to some of the colder regions of our planet and solar system. JASON Project scientists will compare the dynamic systems of Alaska and the Polar Regions to those in outer space.

To prepare teachers and other group leaders to participate in JASON XIII, they are encouraged to attend a free training session sponsored by the URI Office of Marine Programs as part of the Narragansett Bay Classroom. Teacher training will take place on Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coastal Institute Visitor Center on the URI Narragansett Bay Campus.

Teachers or group leaders who attend the training session will receive a free JASON Project video and a copy of the 2002 JASON curriculum.

JASON XIII, led by JASON Project founder and URI Graduate School of Oceanography alumnus Dr. Robert Ballard, will travel to the coldest and most remote regions of our planet and solar system, examining current research in geology, glaciology, biology, astrobiology, oceanography, and climatology. Ballard and a team of researchers and student Argonauts will focus on amazing plants and animals that survive in these frigid environments, from the largest marine mammals to the smallest microbes.
