URI Feinstein Center for a Hunger Free America
to recognize fund-raising efforts among non-profit agencies

PROVIDENCE, RI — January 25, 2002 — The University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein Center for a Hunger Free America will recognize the efforts of local non-profit organizations that participated in the $100,000 Regional Feinstein Holiday Challenge.

To aid the efforts of agencies working to help the needy, the Feinstein Foundation matched donations up to $100,000 made to 154 participating non-profit agencies in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

The event takes place Monday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Paff Auditorium, located at the URI Providence Campus, 80 Washington St., Providence. Organizations that participated in the Holiday Challenge will receive their challenge checks at the event.

URI’s hunger center will highlight regional non-profit organizations that have successfully used the Feinstein Challenge in the past to enhance their programs and fund-raising efforts. Participants will share their fundraising techniques and programming successes through presentations and discussions.

In addition to the regional challenge, the Feinstein Foundation will announce the Feinstein 2002 National Million Dollar Challenge to hunger agencies across the country. For the past five years, the Feinstein Challenge has encouraged anti-hunger organizations throughout the country to energize their fund-raising efforts. The Feinstein Challenge divides $1 million proportionally based on the amount raised by organizations during the months of March and April. Last year, in response to the Million Dollar Challenge, more than 1,400 organizations raised more than $35 million nationwide.
