ROTC awards ceremony planned May 2 at URI

KINGSTON, R.I.– April 2, 2002 — The University of Rhode Island Military Science Department Spring 2002 Awards Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m. at the International Scholar -Athlete Hall of Fame building, located on URI’s Kingston Campus.
The ROTC Program at URI, known as the Cramer’s Sabers Battalion, will present awards to cadets from the University of Rhode Island, Roger Williams University in Bristol and Salve Regina University in Newport.

The ceremony includes remarks by Military Science Department Chairman Lt. Col. Michael Papadopoulos. Many deserving cadets will be recognized and rewarded for their excellence in several areas from leadership to academics to physical fitness to volunteer community service.

One of the highlights of the evening will be the presentation of a saber handcrafted in Germany to the top cadet whose name will be etched on the blade. The saber is given in honor of Parker Cramer, URI ’59, the namesake of the battalion. A member of Cramer’s family will present the saber and its scabbard.

A reception with refreshments will follow the ceremony.
