Landscape modeling, visualization to be discussed Nov. 13 at URI’s Community Planning and Landscape Architecture series
KINGSTON, R.I. — November 3, 2003 — Stephen Ervin, director of computer resources at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, will discuss landscape modeling and visualization at the University of Rhode Island’s Community Planning and Landscape Architecture lecture series on Thursday, Nov. 13.
Ervin’s lecture, “Powerful Tools for Planning and Design: Digital Landscape Modeling,” will be held at 7 p.m. in the White Hall auditorium on URI’s Kingston Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
This richly illustrated talk will delve into the complexities of modeling elements of the landscape – among them mountains, rivers, trees, and atmosphere – using modern computer aided tools, geographic information systems, image processing software, and procedural modeling techniques.
Ervin received his master’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his doctorate in urban studies and planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is co-author of Landscape Modeling: Digital Techniques for Landscape Visualization and has written many articles for publications such as Landscape and Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture Magazine.
