KINGSTON, R.I. — December 2, 2003 — The senior forensic advisor for the Tanzania Police Force will address the University of Rhode Island’s Forensic Science Seminar Series on Thursday Dec. 4.
Carla Miller Noziglia, chairman of the board of trustees for the Forensic Science Foundation, will deliver a lecture titled “The Real CSI and Forensic Science Around the World” at 4 p.m. in Room 124 of Pastore Hall. The talk is free and open to the public.
“It started with Quincy and has intrigued folks with CSI and Crossing Jordan,” Noziglia said. “But ‘media’ forensic science is not necessarily real forensic science.”
Noziglia is slated to discuss her experiences with international forensic science. “The real stuff is just as exciting,” she said. “Forensic science is alive and well in places as exotic as Africa.”
After earning her master of science degree form Lindenwood College in St. Louis, Noziglia spent 15 years in clinical laboratories as a registered medical technologist. For the past 25 years she has worked with forensic science in many capacities, including laboratory director, author and lecturer. She is currently working with the Tanzania Police Force to renovate their facilities and update technologies and instruments in their forensic laboratory.
