URI Boil Water Advisory Remains Only At Biological Sciences Center

The Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) today lifted the boil water advisory at URI in all buildings except the Biological Sciences Center on the north end of the campus. Water in all other buildings is now safe to use for drinking and cooking. Dining services is working with vendors to re-establish service for ice and beverage machines.

It was determined last week that the problem was within the Biologcal Sciences Center, so that building was isolated from the campus water system on Friday. The water in the Biological Sciences Center continues to be tested on a daily basis and the boil water advisory will remain in effect for that building until there are three consecutive days of negative test results.

URI replaced water taps and problem plumbing connections in the Biological Sciences Center. In addition, URI installed a valve there that maintains lower pressure inside the building and prevents back flow of water from that building into the campus system.

After the Biological Sciences Center was isolated, the remaining URI water system had three consecutive days of test results that were negative.
