President Dooley will discuss highlights of his first year in office and the importance of the upcoming Bond Referendum # 2 to Rhode Island’s economic future. “We’re proud that our town is home to the most URI alumni, faculty and staff in the State of Rhode Island and we’ve enjoyed developing a strong relationship with the University community. We are pleased that President Dooley will share his thoughts with us about his first year here,” said Joe Iacoi, executive director of the South Kingstown Chamber of Commerce.
“Having President Dooley speak with community business leaders has been a priority since his arrival in July, 2009,” said Vice President of University Advancement Robert M. Beagle. “The President likes to have the chance to interact with such leaders, to share information about URI, but more importantly to hear what’s on their minds. The South Kingstown Chamber is one of the top Chambers in the State. We appreciate our relationship with them, and all they do for the community.”
South Kingstown residents and the University do have close ties. The town is home to the greatest number of URI alumni, faculty and staff in the state. About 15 percent of its residents (4,300) are URI grads and more than 770 faculty and staff members live in the town as well. In addition, the third largest number of all URI students (788) is from South Kingstown.
