The exhibition starts today, March 4, and runs each week, Monday through Saturday, until Thursday, March 28. Exhibition hours are noon to 4 p.m. The exhibition opening reception will be held today, March 4, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the closing reception will be held Thursday, March 28, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“Providence Under Pressure” will showcase graffiti art works from the June 23, 2012 exhibition, which was held in Kennedy Plaza in Providence, RI, along with new graffiti art, which will be painted directly on the URI Art Gallery walls in the Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Road.
The Avenue Concept was founded in 2012 by Yarrow Thorne, a 2012 Rhode Island School of Design graduate. According to the program’s website, The Avenue Concept is “a public art program that creates positive options to recurrent challenges with public vandalism.” It has been recognized as 1 of 20 emerging art programs in the United States. Additionally, The Avenue Concept has been awarded three years of operating support from The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
This exhibition, as well as all other programs of The Fine Arts Center Galleries, are open to the public free of charge and are accessible to people with disabilities.
