URI’s Ocean State Clean Cities to showcase new technology to improve fuel efficiency, April 5

Solar powered anti-idle system saves energy

KINGSTON, R.I. – March 11, 2013 – The Ocean State Clean Cities Coalition at the University of Rhode Island will hold a stakeholder meeting on April 5 to showcase the newest technology for reducing the need for trucks to idle, improving fuel efficiency by up to 55 percent.

The event will be held at the headquarters of Arpin Van Lines, 99 James P. Murphy Industrial Highway, West Warwick, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

The new technology was developed by eNow, a Rhode Island company that has emerged as a leader in the clean energy industry. It uses a proprietary solar panel system to capture energy to power vehicle refrigeration systems, lift gates, safety lights, and other auxiliary equipment so truckers do not have to keep their vehicles running to power these systems. It reduces fuel consumption, emissions, maintenance costs, and noise.

eNow President Jeff Flath will discuss the new technology with those in attendance, and Peter Arpin, managing partner of Arpin International Group, will share his company’s experience using the technology and discuss how it is benefiting his business.

“This is an exciting new technology developed by a local company that will help to achieve the state’s goals of reducing petroleum consumption in Rhode Island,” said Wendy Lucht, coordinator of the Ocean State Clean Cities Coalition. “Fleet managers and others working in the transportation sector won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn how their business can benefit.”

Marion Gold, commissioner of the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources, will conclude the meeting with a discussion of the state’s role in assisting in business development in the energy sector.

One of 87 such coalitions around the country, the Ocean State Clean Cities Coalition receives programmatic support from the URI Energy Center and has been promoting alternative fuels in Rhode Island since 1998.
