Public Safety, Transportation and Parking announce improvements to gate access technology on Kingston Campus

Aug. 30, 2023

To promote safety and efficiency on campus, the Department of Public Safety and its Transportation and Parking unit recently completed an initiative to upgrade and replace all the gate access devices on campus. The installation phase of the project began in October 2022.

The new card readers offer multiple access options, including Bluetooth technology for contactless gate entry using the JPASS App on smartphones. Magstripe cards (URI identification cards) will no longer work with the new readers. Faculty and staff who use their URI ID cards to access a gate and still require access to the West Alumni gate will need to complete a West Alumni & White Hall Gate Access Request form. You will receive an email with a link to JPASS and instructions on how to use it for gate access. Individuals who do not have smartphones should contact the Transportation and Parking office for alternative options.

As always when launching a new system, there may be issues that need to be addressed. Rest assured we are working diligently to address all issues in a timely fashion. If you experience issues with an access gate on campus, or experience issues accessing a gate for which you have credentials, please call TAP at 401-874-9281.

If your department is hosting an event that requires the use of a specific gated parking area, please coordinate with TAP.

For any questions or issues, please contact Transportation and Parking via TAP@uri.edu.

Thank you.
