URI’s Ocean State Clean Cities Coalition to hold Workshop on natural gas vehicles, June 4

KINGSTON, R.I. – May 15, 2012 – The Ocean State Clean Cities Coalition will host a one-day workshop for public and private fleet operators called “The Compelling Case for Natural Gas Vehicles” on Monday, June 4 at the Radisson Hotel in Warwick. The workshop will cover all aspects of owning and operating a fleet of vehicles powered by natural gas. The program will end with a tour of a nearby compressed natural gas fueling station.

“This will be a comprehensive workshop for public and private fleet operators and clean-transportation policymakers,” explained Wendy Lucht, director of the Coalition. “Attendees will learn how to save money on fuel, foster energy independence, and reduce particulate and greenhouse gas emissions for their fleet at the same time.”

Topics to be covered include a discussion of the best vehicles for various commercial applications, fuel station options, wheel selection, tax incentives and the economics of natural gas vehicles.

The program leader will be Stephe Yborra, director of market analysis, education and communications for the Clean Vehicle Education Foundation. He is the former president of Energystics, Inc., an energy technologies consulting practice. In addition to Yborra, other speakers will include natural gas vehicle equipment and services representatives and current fleet operators.

The registration fee for the workshop is $55 before June 1 and $65 after that date. For more information, visit www.bitly.com/compellingcase or contact Wendy Lucht at 401-874-2792 or wlucht@uri.edu.

Ocean State Clean Cities, one of 85 U.S. Department of Energy designated coalitions, got its start in 1998 as a result of the Energy Policy Act of 1992. The group organizes stakeholder meetings and outreach events and works to identify funding sources for alternative fuel projects, like electric vehicle charging stations, biodiesel fueling stations, and the deployment of alternative fuel vehicles by state agencies and corporate fleets. It also advocates for measures that will reduce petroleum consumption, such as fuel economy and idle reduction technologies.
