Visits part of annual READ/WRITE series

KINGSTON, R.I. –March 23, 2011 –An award-winning poet and nonfiction writer have been selected as presenters for the University of Rhode Island’s annual READ/WRITE series, which is sponsored by the English Department. Both presentations, free and open to the public, will be held in the Hoffmann Room 154, Swan Hall, 60 Upper College Road, Kingston, followed by a reception. Here are the details:

THURSDAY, MARCH 31, 4 to 6 p.m. POET DANIEL HALL, writer-in-residence at Amherst College and chair of its Creative Writing Center, is the author of three poetry collections, Hermit with Landscape, Strange Relation, and Under Sleep. The first was selected for the Yale Series of Younger Poets; the second was a National Poetry Series in 1996, and the most recent won the Thom Gunn Award. Hall has received awards and fellowships from the Ingram Merrill Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Whiting Foundation, and the Guggenheim Foundation. He has also been an Amy Lowell Traveling Scholar.

MONDAY, APRIL 11, 4 to 6 p.m. NONFICTION WRITER CHRISTINE MONTROSS is a staff psychiatrist at Butler Hospital in Providence. Her awards include a 2010 MacColl Johnson fellowship in poetry and the 2009 Eugene and Marilyn Glick Emerging Indiana Authors Award. Body of Work, Montross’ first book, was named an Editors’ Choice by The New York Times and one of The Washington Post’s best nonfiction books of 2007.
