URI ship to depart Mar. 16 on 4 ½ month research cruise to Brazil, Africa

Bon Voyage celebration to feature Narragansett HS band


WHO: The 13-member crew of the University of Rhode Island research ship Endeavor, along with faculty, students, well-wishers, and the Narragansett High School marching band.


WHAT: An informal bon voyage celebration for the captain and crew of the Endeavor as they depart for a 4 ½ month research expedition to Florida, Brazil, Namibia and Cape Verde, one of the longest cruises the vessel has undertaken and its first to Africa. There will be no formal speaking program – just an informal send-off to recognize the crew members who will be away from home for an extended period. The Narragansett High School marching band will play as the ship prepares to depart. The captain, crew and science officer will be available for interviews.


WHEN: Monday, March 16 at 9 a.m. The ship will depart at about 10 a.m.


WHERE: The dock at the URI Bay Campus, South Ferry Road, Narragansett.
