“People are being barraged by unemployment concerns and escalating costs of food, gas, and more,” says Dale Blumen, clinic coordinator.
“Many people who are stressed never think about therapy for themselves because they feel they could never afford it. We just want them to know that our clinic is affordable. We are a resource that can help.”
Fees are based on sliding scale and range from $10 to $35 per visit.
Established in 1983, URI’s Family Therapy Clinic is the only systemic outpatient mental health center in Rhode Island. It is affiliated with the University as a teaching, training and research facility with specialized expertise in relationship and family issues. Graduate student interns in the marriage and family master’s program see clients under the supervision of clinical faculty members.
“We’re very client-centered,” Blumen emphasizes. “We give our clients a session rating scale after each session. We want to know if we are meeting their needs and remain flexible to ensure the best help possible.”
The clinic provides services to families and individuals. “Our specialty is relationships. We draw on strengths families may not realize they have –and help them cope a little bit better.”
The clinic is available to Rhode Islanders and also non-Rhode Island residents.
