KINGSTON, R.I. – April 4, 2007 – The University of Rhode Island’s Library Gallery will showcase 25 Years of Dragonfly – a display of bookbinding restoration, runs through April 26.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. It will be open weekdays during library hours from 8 a.m. to midnight, as well as on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to midnight.
The display will be a collection of work by George and Pat Sargent, who have run their full service hand bookbindery, Dragonfly, for 25 years. They specialize in antiquarian book and paper restoration and fine bindings. The show will feature several dozen bindings that use a wide range of materials.
The exhibit will present examples of restoration and unique design. There are more than a score of musical performance and concert posters, many featuring local artists, audio CD designs, and George’s highly personal collages.
Along with the bookbinding studio, the Sargents also own an art studio specializing in graphic design. Both are alumni of the Rhode Island School of Design and run their businesses out of their studio space in Woonsocket.
