KINGSTON, R.I. — November 8, 2005 — University of Rhode Island alumni and friends are invited to participate in the Ram Alumni Academy for Lifelong Learning seminar series. The discussions, which will take place at the Alumni Center on the Kingston campus, will focus on issues pertaining to balancing life pressures and coping with death and loss. Gene Knott, a professor in the College of Human Science and Services, will lead the seminars.

The discussion, “Balancing Work and Home Life,” will take place from 9 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. The seminar will provide participants with new perspectives and approaches to balancing pressures from both professional and personal responsibilities. The registration fee is $25 and includes a picnic lunch served prior to the URI vs. Northeastern football game.

The discussion, “Coping with Loss,” will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13. This seminar will provide participants with tools and suggestions for coping with the impact of losing loved ones, particularly during the holiday season. The registration fee is $15.

Knott, a psychologist and popular instructor in URI’s Professional Development program, has more than 25 years of experience presenting workshops on creativity, time management, and team building to a variety of organizations in the healthcare, high-tech, and educational sectors. He is also a faculty member with the URI thanatology minor and certificate program which provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to pursue studies in death, grief, and loss.
