KINGSTON, R.I.— January 22, 2018- The University of Rhode Island has appointed Mary Leveillee to the position of associate dean of the College of Nursing.
Leveillee joined the College’s faculty full time in 2000, teaching undergraduate psychiatric and mental health nursing in lecture and clinical settings. Leveillee’s research focuses mainly on women’s issues, eating disorders and client-nurse relationships, all areas where she worked extensively in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings.
Leveillee was a staff nurse at Butler Hospital in 1987. After finishing her master’s degree in nursing, she became an outpatient therapist at the hospital and eventually assumed the role of coordinator of the Eating Disorder Program. In 2014 she returned to Butler Hospital full time and became senior vice president and chief nursing officer, serving in that position until 2017.
“We are delighted to have such an exceptional and talented individual join the URI College of Nursing,” said Barbara Wolfe, dean of the College of Nursing. “Dr. Leveillee brings a wealth of leadership experience to this role.”
Leveillee holds Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Board Certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Her psychiatric/mental health nursing research has been published in numerous academic and medical journals. She has delivered many public presentations, ranging from Compassion Fatigue to Eating Disorders: Dangers and Myths.
Among the honors and awards she has received are: the National Organization of Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges; the Nursing Excellence Award from Butler Hospital; the Outstanding Community Service Award and Outstanding Community Partner Award from Newport County Community Mental Health Center; and the Rhode Island College Alumni Award.
Leveillee, an East Greenwich resident, earned her Ph.D. and master’s degrees in nursing from URI in 2012 and 1991, respectively. She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Rhode Island College in 1987. Leveillee is pursuing a doctor of nursing practice degree from George Washington University.
