Kinesiology B.S.

Kinesiology studies all aspects of human movement—from the cellular level to the level of global physical cultures. Students can choose one of four major specializations: Exercise Science, Health Fitness, Physical Education Teacher Education, and Early Contingent Physical Therapy.

Bachelor of Science: Exercise Science – Applied

The Kinesiology bachelor’s degree prepares students for careers in physical education, fitness and wellness programs, clinical and hospital-based fitness and wellness centers, and cardiac rehabilitation. The B.S. in Applied Exercise Science track is designed for students seeking careers or graduate study in exercise science, health fitness, health promotion, preventive medicine and related fields.

If you are interested in teaching physical and health education at an elementary or secondary school, the Physical and Health Education Teacher Education (PHETE) option is for you. Upon completion of the program, you will be certified to teach in Rhode Island, as well as most other states. You will learn about cognitive course work, teaching methods, educational foundations, and skill acquisition, and you will also have a variety of practicum experiences in school settings. You will learn how to communicate with students of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds and to apply scientific knowledge to physical education practice.

Bachelor of Science: Health and Physical Education

This option is designed for students seeking teacher certification in physical education and/or health education and/or adapted physical education at the elementary and secondary levels. The Youth Movement Science option is the path to acceptance into the Health and Physical Education (HPE) track.  Upon completion of the HPE program, you will be certified to teach in Rhode Island, as well as most other states. You will learn about cognitive course work, teaching methods, educational foundations, and skill acquisition, and you will also have a variety of practicum experiences in school settings. You will learn how to communicate with students of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds and to apply scientific knowledge to physical education practice.
