Request a Site

Requesting a site is a major step in realizing your web goals. There are a few things you’ll need to do to prepare for making a request.

Make sure your new site falls into an official site category

Official sites are defined as:

  • Academic colleges, departments, programs, centers and labs
  • Administrative departments
  • Officially recognized student organizations
  • Officially recognized committees and councils
  • Grant-funded and research projects and institutes

Decide on the purpose of and audience for your website

Determine your main audience, what kind of information you’ll be posting, and how often you plan on updating content. Successful sites are targeted to one or two specific audiences, have clear goals for what visitors should do, and are regularly maintained to stay current. Review the Content Guide for best practices and guidance in these areas.

Note that all sites must abide by URI Website Policies and Standards. Sites requested by a student (e.g. for a recognized student organization) must have a faculty or staff sponsor.

Only request a site when you’re ready to begin work. Newly granted sites that are still in their original state after 60 days may be removed. If that happens, you can submit another site request in order to proceed.
