EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — It’s just one day away until we’ll experience our first solar eclipse in several years.

The rare astronomical event will occur the afternoon of Monday, April 8. While Rhode Island isn’t in the path of totality like states further north, we’ll still get to see more than 90% totality starting just after 2 p.m.

Rhode Islanders won’t have a chance to witness a total solar eclipse until May 2079, according to Time and Date. However, there will be a total lunar eclipse next March.
