Make Time to Play

At URI, wellness is more than a gym membership. We create programs to address the body, spirit, and mind.

We offer 34 intramural and club sports, aquatics, and sailing and paddleboarding. In fact, the URI Sailing Center offers the use of its paddleboards and kayaks to students for free.

Our special events include moonlight yoga, smoothie tastings, and hip-hop dance class. There are meditative and art activities such as journaling, origami, and vision boarding. And we even throw environmentalism into the mix with plogging, an activity which combines jogging with campus cleanup.

With more than 75 group exercise classes in areas such as cardio and strength training, Zumba, Pilates, Bujutsu, self-defense, cycling, and yoga, we’ve got you covered whether your style is high-intensity interval training or guided meditation. We’ll also take custom, group classes to your residence hall. Or, if one-on-one training is more your thing, Campus Recreation offers students a free personal training consultation, which takes into account your health history, time availability, exercise habits, and fitness goals in creating a program tailored to you.

“Everything contributes to your wellness,” said Denise Robbins, URI fitness and wellness expert. “We provide spaces and opportunities for people to work on their wellness, on what makes them happy.”
