The University is taking the following steps to prepare for Hurricane Floyd:
CLASSES
Classes at the Kingston, Providence and Bay campuses are canceled today,
Sept. 16, at 12:30 P.M. and all day Friday, Sept. 17.
LIBRARIES
The University Libraries at all three campuses will close today, Thursday, September 16,
1999 at 4:30 P.M. They will reopen tomorrow at noon unless there continues to be a
weather or power emergency. Please call the respective libraries on Friday to be sure they are
open. The numbers are:
Kingston Library: 874-2673
Pell Library (Narragansett): 874-6161
CCE Library (Providence): 277-5130
BUILDINGS
All buildings, except residence halls, will close to the public at 4:30 p.m. today, Sept. 16.
All remaining events scheduled today are canceled.
All recreational facilities, including the Mackal Field House and the Tootell Physical
Education Center will close at 4:30 p.m. today, Sept. 16, and will remain closed until at least
2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17.
DINING
URI Dining Services will close Butterfield and Roger Williams Dining Halls at
6:30 tonight, Sept. 16. Hope Dining Hall and the Ram’s Den will close at 3 p.m. today.
Hope Corner Store and Late Nite will not open this evening.
To be prepared for the possibility of dining halls being closed on Friday,
students must pick up this afternoon or early this evening breakfast, lunch and dinner meals
from Butterfield or Roger Williams Dining Halls to take back to their rooms
for meals on Friday.
Updates about any further URI cancellations due to Hurricane Floyd will be aired on:
Television Stations, Channels, 6, 10, 12. Radio, WRIU (90.3) FM; WWRX (103.7 FM);
WERI (1230 AM-99.3 FM); WPRO (630 AM); WHJJ (920) AM; AND WADK (1540) AM.

Employees are expected to report to work or discharge vacation or personal time if they plan
to leave. They must notify their supervisor.
The Dept. of Communications/News Bureau will notify the news media and the University
community on storm updates.
