URI class to hold memorial program for women victims of violence

Rhode Island Feminist Chorus to perform KINGSTON, R.I. — November 24, 1999 — URI students enrolled in Dr. Stephen Grubman-Black’s Introduction to Women’s Studies class are inviting the campus as well as the public to join them in a special memorial program for women victims of violence on Dec. 6. The date marks the 10th anniversary of the day when a gunman entered the engineering building at the University of Montreal and killed 14 women. The highly-acclaimed Rhode Island Feminist Chorus will open the program, performing promptly at 5:30 p.m. in White Hall 113. The thought-provoking video, “After the Montreal Massacre,” will follow. This 27-minute documentary places the hate crime within the context of other kinds of violence against women. Admission is free.
