R.I. Geriatric Education Center to hold seminar for health care providers of the elderly

KINGSTON, R.I. — February 18, 2000 — The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center will present “Advanced Practice Seminar II” at the URI Feinstein College of Continuing Education in Providence March 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The seminar will feature presentations on models of health care and behavior change, nutrition, alcohol abuse, grief and loss, and pharmacotherapy. Small group case study discussions will be facilitated by members of the faculty. The registration fee, which includes materials, continuing education credits, refreshments, and parking, is $85. Registration is requested by Feb. 28. Registrations received after that date will be accepted on a space available basis. For more information or to request a brochure, call 874-5311. The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center, located at the University of Rhode Island, offers a Certificate in Interdisciplinary Practice in Geriatrics upon completion of five workshops and two advanced practice seminars. The programs do not need to be taken in sequence. The seminar is approved for continuing education credits for nurses, nursing home administrators, pharmacists, physicians, and social workers. Other health care professionals are encouraged to attend as well. RIGEC (Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center) is a consortium of the URI Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy, Rhode Island College School of Social Work, Brown University School of Medicine, and Aging 2000. Its mission is to improve knowledge and skills in geriatrics and gerontology among health care providers to better meet the needs of the growing elderly population.
