Reunion for three decades of URI fisheries students planned at Fish Expo 2000

Reunion for three decades of URI fisheries students planned at Fish Expo 2000 NARRAGANSETT — August 8, 2000 — Most reunions are dedicated to a particular year-anniversary of a particular graduating class. This one is for graduates of 30 years of classes of the University of Rhode Island (URI) Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Science program. An afternoon reception will honor URI Fisheries graduates on Friday, October 13, at the Providence Convention Center, downtown Providence. Sponsored in part by Rhode Island Sea Grant, the reception is scheduled in conjunction with Fish Expo 2000, the annual showcase of new products, technologies, and services for fishing and marine industries. The reception will run from 4 to 7 p.m. in Room 556B of the convention center. The fisheries course began as a two-year Fisheries and Marine Technology program to train students in fishing technologies and aquaculture. Now, as the Fisheries, Animal and Veterinary Science program, the program includes a four-year undergraduate curriculum as well as graduate studies in various areas of fisheries science. Students and graduates are invited to stop by the URI Fisheries/Rhode Island Sea Grant booth at Fish Expo before joining other alumni at the reunion festivities. Along with hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and a cash bar, the reception will feature a free raffle for fishing-related products such as foul-weather gear and T-shirts. For more information, or to RSVP for the reception, contact David Beutel at the URI Fisheries Center, (401) 874-7152. ### Contact: Tony Corey, (401) 874-6844 For more URI news visit: www.news.uri.edu For a brief weekly summary of URI news by e-mail, call 874-2116 or e-mail at ngillesie@advance.uri.edu
