URI Friends of Oceanography Coastal Walk Will View Migrating Songbirds

URI Friends of Oceanography Coastal Walk Will View Migrating Songbirds before They Head South The sweet sounds of migrating songbirds are nature’s annual gift to those who live in the Northeast. Before the birds leave for warmer climates, Friends of Oceanography will host a coastal walk to view and listen to these colorful feathered crooners. On Thursday, September 28, University of Rhode Island natural resources science Professors Scott McWilliams and Peter Paton will lead the walk to view migrating songbirds, such as the worm-eating warbler and the blackpoll. Participants will meet at a designated location at 7:30 a.m. and caravan to a selected viewing area along the south shore. The caravan will return no later than 11 a.m. Walkers are encouraged to wear appropriate shoes, dress for cool and wet coastal weather conditions, and bring binoculars or a spotting scope. Cost for the walk is $5 for members of Friends of Oceanography and $10 for non-members. Preregistration is required. For information or registration, call 874-6602.
