URI’s Feinstein Center for a Hunger Free America advises:
Click website to help hungry

KINGSTON, R.I. — November 13, 2001 — Did you know you could help the hungry without even opening your wallet? All you need to do is click on www.helpthehungry.org. That’s the website of the Feinstein Foundation.

With each click, the foundation will donate $1 until the end of the year. You can click each day, but only once. The foundation will donate up to $1,000,000 in its ongoing campaign to end hunger in America.

The money will be distributed to charities and houses of worship that help the needy. Last year, the foundation gave away a million dollars to 1,475 such agencies, which helped them raise $35 million, more from other donors.

“What a great way to raise money and awareness,” comments Kathleen Gorman, director of the University of Rhode Island Feinstein Center for a Hunger Free America.

“After the terrorist attacks on September 11, Americans have opened their hearts and pocketbooks to give generously to the victims’ families, sometimes at a cost to local nonprofit agencies who help the hungry,” continues the director. “We’re hearing from agencies who are truly in need of help. Not only are their donations down, the worsening economic climate appears to have created more people in need. I hope this effort by the Feinstein Foundation will really click with people.”

Any agency who would like to share in this year’s money distribution should make a request by writing the Feinstein Foundation at 37 Alhambra Circle, Cranston, R.I. 02905 or e-mailing asf@intap.net.
