Engineering Honor Society initiates 13 URI students

KINGSTON, RI — December 11, 2001 — The University of Rhode Island chapter of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, initiated 13 students during ceremonies in November. Chapter President Joshua D. Clements of Dexter, Mich. conducted the ceremonies for the event assisted by Erik Anderson of East Greenwich, Abrahim Murray of Jamestown, Stanley Youngsaye of Cumberland, and advisers, Richard Vaccaro and Vincent Rose of Kingston.

To qualify for initiation, students in their junior year must rank in the top 1/8 of their class and seniors must rank in the top 1/5 of their class. Students must also show a spirit of liberal education that manifests itself in the form of community service and concern.

Tau Beta Pi was founded in 1885 to recognize the distinguished academic achievements of engineering students and to “foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges.” The honor society has 195 collegiate chapters with more than 300,000 members.
