Spring Into Motion on April 6 to aid URI Physical Therapy

12th annual road race to benefit student clinical research

KINGSTON, R.I. — March 11, 2002 — The University of Rhode Island’s Physical Therapy Program will hold its 12th annual Spring Into Motion 5-mile run/3.1-mile walk Saturday, April 6.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Keaney Gym, with the race starting at 10. Fees for adults and students with ID who register before March 31 are $14 and $12 respectively. Race day registration is $16 for all. Those who wish to register in advance should send their fee to: Spring into Motion, c/o URI Physical Therapy, 25 West Independence Way, Kingston, R.I., 02881.

The event will also include a post-race health screening and massage for all participants, T-shirts for the first 200 entrants, refreshments, and raffles for prizes after the race. Prizes will be awarded to the top runners in each age group category and overall finishers.

Last year’s race attracted more than 300 runners and walkers. Money raised by the event is used to finance the graduate research projects being conducted by URI Physical Therapy students. This year’s research projects focus on the quality of life of persons with disabilities, comparison of abdominal fitness equipment, effects of pressure as a therapeutic technique, aquatic therapy as a treatment for low back pain, and muscle stiffness and muscle fatigue.
