Narragansett, RI — March 25, 2002 — Circle April 6th for the Spring Boat Sale! Plan to be at the URI Foundation’s Spring Boat Sale from 8:30-11:30 am at the URI Bay Campus, Narragansett (off Route 1A). The URI Foundation’s Boat Donation Program currently has more than 70 used vessels. Buyers are encouraged to submit multiple bids, and all bids are sealed and confidential. Offers must be accompanied by $200 deposit in cash or check. Sale proceeds support deserving URI student scholarships and research programs at the University. Our wide array of sailboats range from a 12’ Alcort Zuma to a 72’ Irwin. Powerboats start at a 16’ Sportcraft.

The URI Foundation Boat Donation Program now features a:

1994 ILC 40 yacht, was designed by legendary marine architect Bill Tripp and built by Rhode Islander Eric Goetz. An IMS racer, the boat formerly sailed under the name of High Noon.
1999 J/125 designed by Rodney Johnstone, fully equipped and ready for competition.
1988 Irwin Ketch, 72’ overall, a custom-completed auxiliary sailing yacht

Viewing of these particular vessels is by appointment only.

The Boat Donation Program was established in 1970. Donated boats are stored at our fenced, 72,000 square-foot yard, which includes a heated building to house the equipment that accompanies each vessel.

“A mild winter bodes well for our initial Spring Sale of 2002. My sense is that folks are itching to get out on the Bay and the URI Foundation Boat Donation Program is the perfect way to make that a reality,” says John W. Pickup, Chair, Boat Donation Program. “Our current inventory has something for everyone and it is ever changing. Our April 6th Sale should be a great event.”

The sealed bids will be opened at the URI Foundation office on the Kingston campus; the selected bidders will be notified by Tuesday, April 9th. All other deposits will be returned by mail by April 11th.

Sails and other marine equipment will also be available. For a quick preview of the current inventory, interested boaters are encouraged to visit our web site at www.urifoundation.org. Listings do change weekly, so please stay in touch!
