URI Theatre welcomes visitors to “Our Town” production

KINGSTON, RI — April 1, 2002 — The University of Rhode Island Theatre Department brings the warmth and humor of Thornton Wilder’s award-winning play, Our Town, to the Fine Arts Center’s Robert E. Will Theatre next month.

Directed by Assistant Professor Bryna Wortman of Narragansett, the play runs Thursday through Saturday April 18-20, Wednesday through Saturday April 24-27 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 21 at 5 p.m. Performances will be held in the Robert E. Will Theatre of URI’s Fine Arts Center on the Kingston Campus. Tickets are $12 general, and $10 for students, seniors, children. To reserve tickets, call the URI Theatre Box Office at 401-874-5843.

Our Town tells the story of Emily and George, about their friendship, romance, marriage, family and the community of neighbors in a New England town in the years before World War I. The play is universal in its specificity and complex in its poignant simplicity, as it portrays the ever human journey from life on earth to eternity with its commingle of joy and sorrow. Wilder makes clear how precious every moment of life is and how important it is to live each moment fully.

Our Town costume design is by David T. Howard, with set direction by URI Theater major Patrick Lynch, lighting design by Christian Wittwer, and sound design by Theatre/Music major David Roy.

On Friday, April 19, 2002, the URI Theatre Department will hold its ninth annual Thomas R. Pezzullo benefit performance. All proceeds from this performance of will be donated directly into the Thomas R. Pezzullo Memorial Scholarship Fund.
