URI hosts Family Weekend Nov. 1–3

KINGSTON, R.I. — October 28, 2001 — The University of Rhode Island’s Kingston Campus will be bursting with excitement the first weekend in November as thousands flock to Kingston for the annual Family Weekend Program, on Nov. 1-3.

Family Weekend includes a variety of entertaining and educational activities for URI students and their families. Some of the highlights include the opportunity for families to attend classes with their student(s), and open houses on Friday. On Saturday, The Main Event will give an inside look at the “Student Leadership Program,” a program that prepares students to be effective and inclusive leaders in todays complicated society.

Then it’s on to a tour of the wonderful new athletic facilities enjoyed by students and community members, a Womens Gymnastics Team Exhibition, and an exciting football game at Noon against James Madison University, a post-game reception, and more. Saturday evening, hundreds already have signed up to attend a Multicultural Dinner Cabaret at the Memorial Union at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Ninth Annual Fall Choral Festival at 7. The evening will end with the hilarious deadpan delivery of comedian and Academy Award winner Steven Wright at 8 p.m. in Edwards Auditorium. The weekend concludes on Sunday with the President’s Brunch and tours at the Ryan Center.

This year, there are two registration options: The All-inclusive $35 Blue Card option covers eight events valued at over $50 value. Children under 12 and adults over 65 pay $17. The Brunch-only White Card option is $17 for all. Registration is required. Football game tickets are not included.
