URI announces concert series

KINGSTON, R.I. — December 4, 2002 — The University of Rhode Island’s Music Department will celebrate the end of the fall 2002 semester with a series of concerts that will begin Thursday, December 5 and end Sunday, December 8. The concerts will be held in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. Admission is $8 for the general public and $2 for students, unless otherwise stated. Admission fees will be used to fund scholarships for talented young musicians. The schedule is as follows:

Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m. The URI Jazz Combos

Music will be performed by the URI Traditional Jazz Band directed by Gary Buttery, the Tuesday Night Combo directed by Brian Sparks, and the URI Honors Combo directed by Joe Parrillo.

Friday, December 6 at 7 p.m. The URI Jazz Big Band

The Jazz Big Band, with Director Joe Parillo, will play music by Bob Mintzer, Sammy Nestico, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington.

Saturday, December 7 at 7 p.m. A Holiday Concert

The URI Symphony Orchestra, with Conductor Ann Danis, and the University Chorus, with Conductor Ryan Turner, will perform a series of holiday music selections.

Sunday, December 8 at 3 p.m. Wind & Percussion Ensembles

The URI Symphonic Wind and Percussion Ensembles, with Conductors Gene Pollart and Ronald Stabile, will perform various music selections.

Sunday, December 8 at 7 p.m. URI Student Concert

URI student composers will perform with faculty coaches Eliane Aberdam and Joseph Parillo. This concert is free to the public.
