President of Population Institute to speak at URI

KINGSTON, R.I. — November 3, 2004 — Werner Fornos, winner of the 2003 Population Award, will speak at the University of Rhode Island on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.


His talk, “Investing in Women: Poverty Alleviation,” will be given in Room 113 of White Hall Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.


Winner of the 2003 United Nations Population Award, Fornos has been president of the Population Institute since 1982 and in the forefront of the struggle to balance the world’s population with the world’s resources for more than 20 years.


The talk is jointly sponsored by URI’s Women’s Studies Program and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
