Santa’s coming to URI’s Boss Arena Dec. 5

Proceeds to benefit URI women’s ice hockey

KINGSTON, R.I. — November 24, 2004 — Santa Claus will feet right at home when he visits the coolest place in South County with a bunch of his elves and members of the University of Rhode Island women’s hockey club. The festivities will be held at URI’s Boss Arena Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

“We thought this would be great fun for youngsters in the community, give our student-athletes a chance to reach out, and provide moms and dads with an opportunity to snap plenty of photos,” said women’s hockey coach Beth McCann, noting that this event is one of several fundraisers run throughout the year so that the club is able to compete at the highest levels of club hockey. “Not only will the kids get a chance to visit with Santa in our wonderful campus ice arena, they’ll get a chance to lace up the skates and have some wintertime fun in a safe, sheltered environment,” McCann added.

The $7 cost includes hot chocolate and cookies, a visit with Santa, holiday goodie bag, and skating at the arena from 1 to 2 p.m. Helmets are required and rentals are available. Kids will be able to meet and skate with members of the women’s hockey club, which is ranked No. 2 in the country and No. 1 in the East.
