The seminar will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lower level of the Chafee Social Science Center on URI’s Kingston Campus. The seminar fee is $45 for Master Gardeners and $50 for the general public.
“Early April is the perfect time to gather new ideas on how to start a new garden or improve an existing one,” said Rosanne Sherry, URI Master Gardener coordinator and organizer of the workshop. “Time is precious to everyone, and using your time wisely in the garden makes a big difference in the amount of enjoyment you get from it. Every session in our workshop will give you many ideas and time savers you can take home and use right away.”
Sherry is the event’s first speaker, as she discusses “Dodging the Disasters,” an illustrated walk through common landscaping problems.
Other talks include:
– “Be Site Savvy: Landscape Design 101,” how to conduct a site analysis to help create a comprehensive garden design, by garden designer Greta Cohen.
– “Exciting, New and Unusual Perennials,” by horticulturalist Karen Olson of Sunny Border Nurseries. This workshop will focus on freshening up your garden by adding something new.
– “Right Plant/ Right Place,” by URI Master Gardener Terri Melvin. She will explain exactly what plant tags mean when they say “needs full sun” or “avoid wet conditions.”
– “The Empowered Gardener,” by Kris Koch, a promoter of horticulture in higher education, who will discuss how to use time management so you don’t feel overwhelmed by gardening tasks.
– “Tried and True and Easy to Enjoy, too!” by Irene Beauregard, URI Master Gardner, on redesigning your gardens to enjoy them more while you get older.
