Joyce Cohen to discuss “Keeping Your Career Ahead of the Curve”

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — November 2, 2005 — Nationally known career development specialist, Joyce Cohen, will come to The University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein Providence Campus in November to lead a career development workshop entitled: “Get Ready, Get Set, Get Savvy: How to Keep Your Career and Your Life Ahead of the Curve.”

In the interactive workshop, Cohen will explore the realities of career planning and emerging demographic trends. She will also describe steps students and others need to take in preparing for new careers.

Free and open to the public, the two-hour program will be held Saturday, Nov. l2, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Paff Auditorium at the Providence Campus, 80 Washington St. Sponsored by the Student Services office, the event will also include opportunities for visitors to network with URI alumni. Interested participants can register by calling 277-5000.

“Success comes to the prepared mind, and with some insight and skill, we can turn obstacles into opportunities,” Cohen said in describing her workshop.

A leading figure in the field of career development and life planning, Cohen heads the Connecticut-based consulting firm, Unconventional Wisdom, which specializes in the areas of career transition and personal growth. She leads seminars and consults worldwide on these issues with executives, managers and employees at all levels as well as with students in secondary and higher education.

Cohen holds a master’s degree and specialist diploma from the University of Pittsburgh, certificate of advanced graduate studies from the University of Bridgeport, coaching certification from Hudson Institute in Santa Barbara, Calif., and advanced training with Pacific Institute in West Seattle, Wash.

Cohen publishes a quarterly newsletter devoted to career development, authors a bimonthly column on life planning for the Connecticut Post web site, and contributes articles to trade publications.
