URI Spring into Motion road race, April 29

KINGSTON, R.I. — April 27, 2006 — The University of Rhode Island’s Physical Therapy Program says that it’s time to “Spring into Motion” at its Alumni Day Celebration on Saturday, April 29, 2006. The day will feature the 16th annual 5-mile Fun Run and 3.1-mile walk, an honors ceremony to recognize several URI physical therapy alumni, and an awards presentation after the race.

The program starts at 8 a.m. with registration at Keaney Gymnasium on the URI Kingston Campus, with the race and walk starting at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Race day registration fees are $18 per person. The first 200 entrants will receive free event T-shirts.

After the race, awards will be presented to top runners in age group categories and overall finishers. There will also be free refreshments, massages by the Bancroft School of Massage, health screening, and prize raffles after the race.

Proceeds from the race benefit the department’s student clinical research.

The URI Physical Therapy Program prepares students for careers as licensed physical therapists. Through an intensive three-year course of study, students are exposed to basic sciences, evaluative and treatment theories, intervention techniques, professional issues analysis, and skills development to allow independent practice. Funds raised by the event help to support physical therapy graduate student research projects.
