KINGSTON, R.I. – November 30, 2006 – An editor of the Journal of Forensic Science will speak at the final session of the University of Rhode Island Forensic Science Seminar for the fall semester. Dr. Michael Peat’s talk, entitled “Forensic Toxicology,” will be held on Friday, Dec. 8 in Pastore Hall, Room 124 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The seminar is free and open to the public.

Toxicology is the study of the adverse effects of chemicals on living organisms. Peat’s talk will explain how toxicology is used to aid in forensic investigations.

Peat is a graduate of Oxford Polytechnic and the University of Utah, with degrees in biochemical pharmacology and toxicology. He has served as president of the substance abuse testing division and executive vice president of toxicology for LabOne, Inc as well as vice president of toxicology for Roche Biomedical Laboratories and CompuChem Laboratories, Inc. He became the editor of the Journal of Forensic Science in 2001.
